Agrivoltaics/Sheep Grazing
- Fairview Solar intends to host sheep grazing and pollinator habitats upon completion of construction.
- These practices improve soil health, promote local biodiversity, mitigate stormwater erosion and minimize the use of gas-powered mowing equipment.
- Urban Grid & Fairview Solar are committed to working with local agricultural organizations like the 4-H & Future Farmers of America (FFA) to help cultivate a workforce to maintain this site and the future of farming in Ashley County.
- Adds new agricultural opportunities to land previously used for industrial timber operations.
- Offers long-term agricultural jobs that span the life of the solar project (30-40 years)
Economic Impact
- The project is expected to contribute an estimated $8.7 million in tax revenue to Ashley County over the project life.*
- Prior to construction, we are committed to hiring locally, when possible, and ensuring area businesses have the opportunity to bid on subcontracts.
- Urban Grid and Fairview Solar are committed to boosting area workforce development opportunities through our local Chamber of Commerce memberships.
- During construction, hundreds of workers will be onsite boosting revenue for area businesses and service providers.
Environmental Impact
- Fairview Solar poses no material impacts to jurisdictional wetlands, FEMA floodplains or sensitive ecological habitats.
- Long-term cover crops will be established under panels to root-in and preserve topsoil health.
- Best practices for erosion control and stormwater management will be incorporated.
- Use is long-term, but temporary, and the land can be reclaimed for its previous use.
- The project will generate enough energy to power approximately 13,400 homes while offsetting 120,000 metric tons of CO2.*
